NYPD has a model that you should incorporate in your message: courtesy, professionalism, and respect (CPR). On Mondays when most people have a hard time getting to work, courtesy allows you to shift the mood in the room. It works like a light switch in a dark room. Professionalism works as a reminder. It says you are competent for your line of work which gives you that constant burst of confidence. The last of the three, respect, allows you to receive and convey admiration. In the job environment, you get to earn respect based on your performance. Outside of work, it is not something you earn; it is given. You don’t have to be a police to apply these tools. Courtesy, professionalism, and respect are transmutable across all fields. Mondays are difficult for many. So treat everyone you come in contact with like a patient in need of CPR.
