Whenever there’s a conflict between two or more individuals, only a few people dare to help restore peace. In this age of social media, most people are more concerned about getting “likes”, thumbs up, or smiley faces. Therefore, they choose to become professional spectators with cell phones. Recently, I saw two adult, female drivers, blocked the streets to fight for a parking spot with umbrellas. At the mere instant of the brawl, I saw a group of men pop out their phones for “Facebook Live” while others watched from the sidewalks with their mouths open. Only two persons did something to restore peace. Those two individuals are real leaders. Leaders are mediators, not spectators. They don’t run away from problems. Leaders behave like storm chasers. They run toward problems not with cameras but with solutions. So, leader, what do you do when there is a problem? Which way do you run? Do you run toward the problem with the solution or run away with the footage? Don’t run away with the remedy. Open your arms, slap your chest like Denzel Washington, and say “King Kong doesn’t have anything on him!”
