Last year, Michelle Obama delivered a moving speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) that resonated with many. The most impactful part of the speech was the phrase, “When they go low, we go high.” These words hold great meaning, especially for those who have experienced bullying or disrespect. Michelle’s message is clear: when faced with insults, respond with respect; when confronted with hate, respond with love; and be the mature one when faced with immaturity. You don’t have to be a politician to embrace her message; it’s something we should all adopt for better interactions in our homes, workplaces, and communities. Reflecting on those seven words, I’m reminded of the wisdom of the prophet Isaiah: “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…”
