“I looked at it as a rehearsal, and I keep on practicing like a physician.” https://youtu.be/WSjiqNXcC9E Losing is by no means exciting, but it happens. Ask any professional athlete, for example, Usain Bolt, if he had ever lost a competition and you’ll get a resounding yes. Losing has never left a good taste or pleasant memory but what makes the difference is how you respond. Not because you’ve experienced loss, that doesn’t mean you are a loser. Not because you’ve failed, that doesn’t mean you are a failure. I believe it was Zig Ziglar who told us to look at failure as an event and not as someone you know. I could stop there but let me continue. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon explained to us that a righteous man will fall multiple times (Prov. 24:16). But he didn’t stop there; in fact, he said if you are an ethical person, you will recover. The way to recover from a fall is to get up. If you’ve lost a battle, don’t give up or give in. Assess what went wrong and be prepared to go at it again. Here’s the approach the great army general, David, took when he lost at Ziklag, and his people threatened to kill him. He didn’t give up. He sought divine counsel and received instruction to return to reclaim what he had lost (1 Sam. 30). Let’s look at a more modern approach through the lens of R. Kelly. I like the posture he adopts when he loses. He embraces losing and looks at each experience as a rehearsal. I too had my fair share of failures. A few years ago, I entered a talent competition where I sang and lost to a dance group. I was disappointed, but that didn’t stop me. I looked at it as a rehearsal, and I kept on practicing like a physician. Another time I performed and a friend said, “Your voice is not there yet.” It was not the best thing to hear, but I looked at that moment as rehearsal, and I kept on working on my voice. Another time when I performed for that same friend, I couldn’t finish the song before I heard, “Your voice is there, what you did do?”Whenever you suffer a loss, don’t look at it as such. A loss only says you have more work to do. The faster you do your homework, the faster you’ll be on your feet again. Remember you were born a winner and there’s no limit to what you can do through the Creator that fortifies or strengthens you!
